Recall that ASUU embarked on a nationwide strike on March 23 to demand the revitalisation allowance, Earned Academic Allowances (EAA), renegotiation of the 2009 agreement, visitation panels, among others. The strike resulted in withholding the salaries of ASUU members.

Past attempts to resolve the strike proved abortive. However, in a recent meeting held with the union on Friday, 21st November 2020,  Federal Government met with ASUU decided to pay the lecturers their outstanding salaries using an older payment platform, GIFMIS, different from the controversial IPPIS.

Also, some of the demands of ASUU were met. These include the release of 35 billion nairas for earn allowance and 30 billion nairas for revitalization, instead of the initially proposed 30 billion nairas and 20 billion nairas respectively.

ASUU representative planned to inform her members with the new development before deciding on the next line of action – either to suspend the strike or otherwise
