Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) declared 2 weeks warning strike on the 9th March, 2020.

As a result, there were series of meetings between ASUU and the Federal Government of Nigeria team led by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige; the second reconciliation meeting held last Tuesday reflected that ASUU would need 18 months to fully develop the proposed University Transparency and Accountability System (UTAS), according to Vanguard.

However, Federal Government proposed the payment of salaries through the  Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) during this period and later migrates the academic staff payrolls into the UTAS, after fully developed in eighteen month’s time.

Possible outcome is either ASUU accepts the latter proposal by the Federal Government or rejects it and prolongs the strike.

      What is your own opinion?
